Tuscaloosa Christmas Afloat
The 2009 Tuscaloosa Christmas Afloat is over and in the record books! What a great night we had this past Saturday, Dec 12(even with the rain!) Thank you to all of our wonderful participants, supporters, volunteers, spectators, and everyone involved.....you helped make our 19th annual parade a success! Congratulations to all the winners, also! The boats looked fantastic, from the smallest pontoon to the largest houseboat, and everything in between! Now take a break and enjoy your holidays, and start thinking about next year's Tuscaloosa Christmas Afloat, on Dec 11, 2010! It will be our 20th year, bigger and better than all the others!!
Tuscaloosa Christmas Afloat History Tuscaloosa Christmas Afloat began in 1990 as a way to bring the Christmas spirit to the Tuscaloosa Community in a whole new perspective…on the water! The Vision…Gather as many individuals with boats, as possible, convince them to decorate their boats with lights, themes, designs, Christmas trees, anything representing the Christmas spirit. Then, navigate their boat down the Black Warrior River to put on a wonderful "boat parade" on water. To top it off, have a spectacular fireworks show to end the parade. The Reality…It worked!! Nineteen years later we are continuing on with that vision. Committee members and volunteers work year-round conducting fundraisers to make sure this tradition continues. Every cent raised goes directly into the account to fund Tuscaloosa Christmas Afloat. Sponsors- Why We Need You…By becoming a sponsor and participating in our fundraisers, you are playing an important role in the continued success of Tuscaloosa Christmas Afloat. See our photos here: http://www.eaglecovemarina.com/index.php?option=com_expose&Itemid=44 or, just go to the Photo Album menu, and select the Christmas Afloat folder to view the pictures.
Parade Route: The parade will begin at 5:00 PM, starting from the Riverview Park East boat ramp off Jack Warner Parkway at 7th Ave NE and proceed down river on the Tuscaloosa side to a turning point just below the State Dock, near Oliver Lock, then, back up river along the Northport side. The finish line will be just above the Cypress Inn. The parade can be viewed from either side of the river at the walking/bicycle trails and parks along Jack Warner Parkway and Rice Mine Road.
